PDRA in the group Soumalya Bhattacharyya has won the prestigious inaugural James Turner PDRA Prize for Outstanding Support, Collegiality and Leadership. Soumalya received nominations from across the school, and has taken up deputising for the XRD service whilst acting as a reliable and natural mentor for two growing research groups, focusing on making the lab a positive environment to work in. He has also published high quality, impactful research and played a key role in creating and maintaining a friendly, social community.

The prize came with a keynote talk, which Soumalya recently delivered at the Dan Eley symposium in the School of Chemistry at Nottingham.
